Firsts

Donner and Blitz.

Ok, so I didn't finish first in my most recent competition in Saariselkå, Finland. I was 14th in a field of over 60 racers. However, the amount of 'firsts', obstacles and new beginnings it took just for me to get to the start line is something I'm proud of. My first race as a Swiss athlete in a 5km FIS event in Saariselkå was a blast but over too soon. A little too timid on the course, but a step in the right direction. An incredible mix of emotions when I crossed the line and just pumped to be there. After seeing my result, I know I'm capable of better. It was awesome to see my teammates Natalie Von Siebenthal and Nadine Fähndrich finish 3rd and 4th as well as a strong performance from the Swiss team as a whole was something worth celebrating.

First time north of the Arctic Circle, first reindeer sighting, first reindeer burger. TG3 was in Saariselkå for 10 days and left the blue skies and parched slopes of Switzerland for the short days and snowy trails of Finland. A good trade off, but I was more than excited to see the sun in Davos and now we have snow as well!

My season begins in Goms December 5/6 where I will race a  Swiss Cup skate sprint and 10k classic with my new ski club, SAS. Providing that these races go well, the following weekend is World Cup Davos with a 10k skate on December 12 and skate sprint on December 13. Based on performances in these two race weekends, I will have a better idea as to whether I will be able to start more World Cup races or racing Continental cup and Swiss Cup races.

Christmas and race season just around the corner makes for some antsy athletes. The race trails in Davos are longer by the day as more snow falls and the man made snow is spread on the trails. If you see any spare snowflakes, send 'em my way!
